Chapter 5

The Final Exam

With Quinn by her side, Xindra stood by the door to see their students off for the last time. She and her husband had started this Sex Ed course for two reasons. First, they were a mixed-race couple themselves, and they’d had to learn about their physical and cultural differences the hard way. By teaching this class, they had hoped to spare others the difficulty. Second, they’d needed the extra money during the off season when there weren’t enough clients to support their regular jobs here at the gym. In her opinion, they’d succeeded on both fronts.

Xindra enjoyed teaching, and she meant what she’d said. This was a good group. It was going to feel strange not to be back here with them next week.

Trett was the first to pass them on the way out. The fair Ibration had started paying on a class-by-class basis after he’d gotten involved with Xindra’s friend, Mera. He made her friend happy, and for that alone, she would have liked him.

“We’re still on for a double date Friday, right?” Trett smiled and scratched one double-pointed ear. “Mera wants to celebrate her last day of data input. Starting next week, she can go back to aerobic and gymnastic instructing full time.”

“From what she says, it’ll be like breaking out of prison.” Mera had given Xindra an earful about her boring temp job.

“You bring our favorite Oquaran, and we’ll bring the bubbly,” Quinn added.

Trett stepped out, and Krux and Katra’Ruma came next.

“Quinn. Xindra.” The four-armed Brachoi shook hands with both of them at the same time. “I’ve enjoyed this class more than I could have anticipated. Thank you.”

Katra’Ruma, her eyes sparkling, was far less subtle. “What he means is you’ve certainly improved our sex lives.”

Xindra shared a grin of understanding with the Duosien woman. Katra’Ruma was a strong, passionate person, as was Krux. That’s probably why the two of them had spent so much time sniping at each other before they’d finally given in to their attraction. Apparently all their arguing had been foreplay.

Krux ushered his lover out with an arm around her shoulders and waist, while Katra’Ruma snuck a hand behind him to pinch his butt cheek.

“It was more entertaining when those two were fighting,” Whitt complained. “I liked watching Katra’Ruma make Krux turn bright red.”

Spri elbowed him in the ribs. “Be nice. Our relationship didn’t start out easy, either, but aren’t you happy with where we ended up?”

“Can’t you read my mind?”

“Not right now.” Spri gave her boyfriend a puzzled look. “You know I can only read you while we’re making love.”

“Well, if you insist.” Whitt waggled his eyebrows and pulled her toward the door.

Spri laughed and said good-bye over her shoulder.

Varion wore an amused expression that didn’t change even as he morphed from a ruddy-faced redhead to a tanned blond. All Multans could shift their superficial features, but Xindra had never seen one change so frequently. She knew he did it to show off for his girlfriend, Benni.

“So did we ace the class?” Varion asked.
